Our Story

After living for a long time in East Africa, we know that premium Swedish Snus can be hard to come by. So we decided to make it ourselves using what nature had endowed around us. What you can see, smell and taste today is the result of a long journey. Inspired by the Swedish Snus tradition, and by the natural abundance and vibrant cultures of Kenya, we hope to capture the best of both worlds in our own interpretation of what really good snus should taste like.

An East African Tradition

Snus has been used in Kenya for generations. This tradition, especially among women, is known by many names. Among the Maasai it is called Lorkumbau, the Kikuyu Baki, the Turkana Etaba, and the Luo Ndawa. In Swahili, it is known as Ugoro. Across regions, the method remains much the same: dried, ground tobacco, mixed and heated with water and soda. In many ways, it echoes the traditional preparation of Swedish Snus. In some areas it comes in pouches using banana leaves; in others, it is kept loose in its most natural form.
